The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) established the Technical Committee for Quality Management and Quality Assurance (TC176) in 1979, tasked with developing standards for quality management and quality assurance. Since its initial release in 1987, the ISO 9000 series of standards has undergone revisions in 1994, 2000, 2008 and 2015, evolving into the current ISO 9001:2015 standard.
The ISO 9000 family of standards represents a scientific summary of quality management practices accumulated by many economically developed countries worldwide. It is applicable to organizations of all types, sizes and those supplying diverse products. Implementation of the ISO 9000 family standards facilitates the improvement and refinement of an organization’s quality management system and delivers positive effects on elevating its overall management capability.
ISO 9001 is by far the world’s established quality framework, adopted by more than 750,000 organizations across 161 countries and regions. It sets benchmarks not only for quality management systems but also for overall management systems. It enables organizations of all kinds to achieve success through enhanced customer satisfaction, greater employee engagement and continual improvement.
